MAKE AN AD COMPETITION
Art of this world

Magazine cover

By David Gapes

A double pun (Jockey & bull/balls) coupled with an outrageous concept gave Axis Adschool student Lazrus Simons’ ‘ad’ just enough to edge it ahead of two fine pieces of work from Whybin TBWA’s Mari Pettersson, and another from JWT’s Craig Love & Rod Prosser, to take out the main prize in AdMedia’s Make an Ad competition.
Simons wins $250 cash, a 12-month AdMedia & Fastline subscription, the latest Agencies & Clients book, plus an Onfilm Data Book with direct internet access.
Love, Prosser, and Pettersson each receive AdMedia & Fastline subs (Pettersson, of course, gets two).
All subs can be gifted to another person.
The rest – quite a few of which were serious contenders – display all the mixed qualities you’d find in the real-world marketplace.
Interestingly, several entrants came up with very similar ideas (Love/Prosser and Goodrick/Davidson, for example – the former won out for its imaginative use of the Pak’n Save barcode).
The comp was judged by AdMedia designer Jenny Askew & ed David Gapes, and Bravo Design production manager Fran Marshall.
